Our Preschool Program runs (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays). The class options are 9-11.45am -OR- our Extended program runs 9am-1pm. We feel that the 9-1 option along with the 4 days/week option is great for children that will be entering into full day Kindergarten the following year. This preschool class is inclusive of children aged 3-5.
Following the Reggio Emilia approach our topics are chose through observations of the children by the teachers. Different provocations are set for the children to investigate, analyze and question; through the children’s involvement with the materials set before them the teachers are able to decipher what the interest of the children is. The teachers then bring in materials and explorations for the children to interact with, it might be: art, music, science, math, socials, and more.
The teachers spend much time deciding what senses and facets of the whole child they will plan their activities to, knowing that all children learn in different ways. Thus, there are activities brought in for the visual learner, auditory learner, kinesthetic learner, loud/quiet learners. Not only are the activities brought to the children but we also require the children to be apart of their learning through large/small group discussions. We encourage both asking questions and listening to others hypothesis about the interests at hand. The teachers know what a large part the environment is in the learning process so there are changes made to the materials offered and experiences offered frequently to ensure the children stay engaged and inquisitive!
