I’m a big goof who is a good listener, and has a heart of gold! I work in the 3-5 Program and my qualifications include: an Associates of Technical Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education, Certificate in Early childhood Education from Edmonds Community college in Washington USA, and my BC ECCE License to Practice.
A little bit about me:I am married and have a 6 1/2 year old little girl. I also have 3 older step children from my husband’s previous marriage. I was born and raised on the Central Coast of California. If anyone has ever seen the movie “Sideways” that is pretty much the general area. I now reside in North Delta. I love the game of softball/ baseball it gets me excited! I was on a small town team in California at the age of 15 and our girls made it to the State Championships. We took third in the state of California. Therefore on my time away from work I love coaching children’s softball/baseball. I have had the opportunity to coach my daughter’s teams the last two years! Since both of us love the sport we are volunteering this July at the Canada Cup which is held in White Rock. We have also done the HSBC Child Run for the past two years. I am also a member of the PAC at my daughter’s school!
Me and Childcare: What attracted me to childcare was the simple fact that I get to hang out with children all day and learn life from a really neat point of view. From a very young age I have been an advocate on children’s rights, yet not forgetting about their necessary boundaries that help us all in the growth of our being. I love what children have to say and watching the ‘wheels’ turn about ideas from the simplest things to their deeper thoughts. Each day I look forward to arriving at work to hear all about the children’s new adventures and annotations as the new day begins. I truly enjoy the Reggio Philosophy as it truly empowers the children and their way of thinking to place into their own creative reality for everyone else to see, hear, smell, feel, and taste! The most interesting project that I have done with children was our beach project. We definitely took it through all of the motions of our senses and made it into a large class idea that came alive! We had the children talk about what they heard, saw, smelled, tasted and felt at the beach in a series of circle time discussions. This resulted in many smaller projects that eventually became our very own beach. The children also decided to take a trip to a local beach to get more ideas. In the end we had a full table size salt and flour model of our own beach which the children had described in distinct detail and each piece was made by them.
Conclusion: What it all comes down to is I love to watch children get the most out of everything that they do from the biggest project to the smallest thought. In both my professional and personal life I am not too serious, but I am firm, fair and kind hearted!
