2. Parents will be charged for any NSF cheques received by the school.
3. NSF cheques must be replaced within seven days.
4. Cash or certified cheque may be required as replacement for NSF cheques.
5. In the case of regular cash payments, payments must be made one month in advanced.
Withdrawal
Refund of programs fees will only be granted if written request is received by the first day of the month prior to the month of withdrawal. If written notice is not received by the first day of the month, one month of fees will be withheld. Verbal cancellation will not be accepted.
Arrivals
Please accompany your child into the school, allowing time to remove and hang up his/her jacket etc.
Please stay with your child until the teachers are present.
Please ensure that your child is signed in upon arrival and that the name of the adult picking up your child is written on the sign in and out sheet.
Please phone if your child will be absent from class.
Departures
Please pick up your child promptly at the end of class. We would appreciate a phone call if you are going to be late.
Please ensure that an authorized adult is able to pick up your child.
Written permission must be given prior to pick up time and at the teacher’s discretion in order for your child to be released into the care of a sibling or babysitter.
Please inform the teacher by telephone if the authorized adult is unable to pick up your child. Provide the name and a description of the adult who will be picking your child. A teacher will ask to see I.D and will take a photocopy for your child’s file.
Please be aware that the teachers will not release your child to an adult who appears to be under the influence. Alternate plans will be made at that time.
When being released from outside you must still sign your child out, a signature is required.
Please be aware that late pick up, 6:00pm and after, could result in a late fee.
Snack/Lunch
We advocate an open snack policy, where children are free to have their snack when they are hungry but we will encourage those who have not eaten to do so by snack time. Lunch and feeding times for infants are according to the schedule that is set. Eating with friends is an important part of each child’s social development, however we do not encourage sharing of food due to potential allergic reactions.
We are also a “Nut Free Zone”, please do not send nuts/nut products of any kind in your child’s snack. We provide specific tables for eating and remind children to wash their hands before eating their snack. We also have hand sanitizer available. We encourage nutritious snacks such as fruit, vegetables, cheese, crackers, muffins, and juice, water or milk. Please send snacks in recyclable containers that are labelled with your child’s name (we try to reduce garbage and increase the children’s awareness of the environment). Thank-you!
Circle Time
Circle time includes a variety of group activities; discussions, sharing time, songs, stories, creative movement, drama, puppetry, games, poems, and finger-plays. At BEA we allot twenty minutes of each day for group activities.
Gross Motor Development
Children need time each day to exercise and use their large muscles. We provide opportunity for gross motor activity through a wide variety of equipment and outdoor space. Exploration of this equipment promotes a healthy physical body by developing flexibility, endurance and strength.
Health and Accident
Preventative measures are necessary in the school setting. If your child is not well, please keep him/her home. We will contact you or your emergency contact if your child becomes ill while at school. Please let us know if your child has contracted or been exposed to a communicable disease.
Keep you child at home if he/she shows any of the following signs/symptoms:
- Fever of 100F(38.5C) or higher.
- Consecutive bouts of diarrhea, has vomited within the past 24 hours.
- Skin infection, undiagnosed rash, eye infection or signs of infectious disease.
- Parasite related conditions (impetigo, scabies, head lice, etc).
- Acute cold with running nose or eyes, sore throat.
- Has been on antibiotics for less than 24 hours.
- Your child may return to school when:
- Fever had remained below 100f(38.5C) for 24 hours without medication.
- Child has had at least one normal bowel movement.
- 24 hours has passed since last bout of vomiting.
- Child has been examined by a doctor and has received medical clearance for an infection or parasite related condition.
- After being on antibiotics for 24 hours.
- Staff can refuse a child who is too ill to attend school and may request medical clearance.
We would prefer not to give medication to children while they are at school. You and your doctor will be required to sign a consent form before we will accept responsibility for administering medication. Medication must be in its original pharmaceutical container and be accompanied by the doctor’s instructions.
In cases of severe injury or illness we will contact the parent immediately. If we are unable to reach a parent, we will arrange to take the child to the hospital. Medical consent forms and medical record forms will be taken to the hospital with the child. Please provide us with a current list of any medications, allergies, or medical concerns and keep us informed of any changes in doctors, dentist, etc.
Child Abuse
Children depend on others for their safety and well-being and have the right to be protected from abuse and neglect.
Staff is legally required by, section 14 of the Child and Family and Community
Service Act, to report any suspected abuse to the Ministry for Child and Family Development (MCFD).
Staff responsibility is to report any suspicions of or disclosures of abuse. It is the responsibility of MCFD to investigate and determine if abuse has occurred.
Clothing
Please send an extra change of underwear, clothes and shoes for your child inside of his or her backpack. Accidents do happen and your child will appreciate having clean, dry clothes to change into.
Please send your child to school in comfortable clothes and shoes with soft soles. Children need to feel free to engage in “messy” activities without worrying about soiling their clothing.
Personal Toys
Children are encouraged to bring project-related toys, books, etc. to share at circle time. Otherwise, toys should be left at home or in the child’s cubby.
Special Events
Seasonal celebrations and traditions such as Halloween, Christmas, Hanukkah, and Valentine’s Day etc. are special events at school. We may ask parents to sign up to bring special snacks and to join us for some of the parties.
Birthdays
A birthday is an exciting time for a child. Children’s birthdays will be acknowledged through a special activity. Parents are welcome to participate and to provide a special snack if desired.
Field Trips
Field trips are planned during the year when they contribute to our projects and goals. Advanced notice is given for each event and parents may be asked to accompany us to provide extra supervision.
Parent/Caregivers
Parent/Caregiver input and help is welcomed and valued at BEA.
Parents/Caregivers are not required to participate in our daily program or any other aspects of school life. You can be as involved as you want to be. Our door is always open for those who would like to see their child in the classroom settings and we are happy to arrange a meeting should you wish to discuss your child.
