Katie Larden

I am kind and loving person and I work in the Infant Toddler Program and the 3-5 Programs at Holly. My qualifications include: Early Childhood Care and Education Certificate.

A little bit about me: There are four people in my family, my mom, my dad and my sister. We also have two dogs named Buddy and Tiki. I have many cousins of various ages that are apart of my life as well. I have lived in Tswwassen all of my life, so I know many people in both Ladner and Tswwassen. I love being outside so many of my interests allow me to spend time in the outdoors. I enjoy dirt biking, camping, and horseback riding. People that I know describe me as a fun caring person who is always smiling!

Me and Childcare: The things that I enjoy about childcare are different with every age that I work with. For the infants and toddlers it is watching them grow and learn new things such as walking and talking. For the 3-5 children I think it is really neat to do big projects with them and watch the children create their own pieces of work. The children have stories about each different piece of their work and it is interesting to look through the eyes of the child. The Reggio Philosophy to me lends itself nicely to the teacher being able to observe children’s actions and words in the classroom and then applying that knowledge to give children projects that are relevant to their lives and interests. This seems to make an environment where the children are happy and eager to learn! An interesting project that I worked on with the children was about Food. The topic started when the children were really interested in the supermarket and food. The children got to read books and manipulate different fames and objects that surrounded the food topic. The children also got to make different food exploring their touch, taste and smell. Our study ended with all the children making a large pizza together with different materials found around the classroom.

Conclusion: I truly enjoy the work that I do and I love all the stories, cuddles, and adventures that I get taken on each day with all the children in the classroom!
